It has been an exciting few weeks at the shop. Not only did the buyer score some great supplies, but Armand has already sent some of the fabrics and trims to the tailor. Patterns have been drafted for breeches and shirts. We are anticipating fittings within a fortnight.
The designer found the tiniest little buttons for the shirts. You can see them in the bags if you look closely.
In the meantime, Armand wishes to show off his manly figure, with it's broad chest, slim waist and strong arms and legs. He does not have as fulsome a figure as the ladies. But his calves are indeed shapely. The buttons used for his joints are a smaller size and should fit under clothing smoothly. His feet are big and might prove a challenge for the cordwainer. Boots are definitely on the list.
The buyer was pleased to present Armand with a new trunk in which to store his suits, hats and other accessories. He claimed the newest basket as well, and the milliner has it ready and waiting to fill up with tricorns, night caps and felt hats.
Speaking of baskets, the collection has grown considerably and now the ladies each have something to carry their market purchases.
There is a bag filled with what were favour baskets that need some cheering up. All of the others were thrifted locally too. The weaver always hangs on to scraps, in this case bits for making handles. Can you guess which basket was originally decorated for Christmas?
There was also a big bag of buttons on sale, and there were so many we stopped counting. Some are old fashioned mother of pearl in a variety of sizes. There are also lots of buttons perfect for future doll limb joints. The unsuitable buttons from the bag will be re-donated. The buyer knows too well how many other button collectors are on the search.
Here are some of the fabrics sent to the tailor. The gold stripe is a pillow case and the grey wool is from a suit someone cut out but never made. The wool is old school and cuts without fraying, which will save on lining a coat completely. The silver cloth is thrifted off cuts and will be used for a vest back and maybe coat lining. There is still much discussion over which buttons and trims should be added to the garments.
So there is much to keep the shop busy, not just for Armand, but the ladies as well. The over robe for Abby is on the sewing table, as well as a number of caps and aprons. Please check back for all the new additions in the Gallery. And as aways, feedback is much appreciated.
